Damen’s Set to Complete Azerbaijan’s First Domestically Built Dredge

Posted on January 17, 2025

The Damen Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) 650, currently under construction at the Baku Shipyard, is set to be completed later this year, according to a representative from the Dutch shipbuilding company Damen Shipyards Group.

Report informs that Damen sales manager Alexander Shamray expressed his satisfaction with the progress and quality of the project.

“We are delighted to be collaborating with the Baku Shipyard. Their team is doing a brilliant job, and the quality of the workmanship is impressive. We are satisfied with the current pace of construction, especially considering that this is the first vessel of its kind being built at the shipyard [in Baku],” Shamray told DredgingToday.

The dredger, christened “Engineer Soltan Kazimov,” is being built for the Baku Port. Dredging operations have become necessary due to the port’s expansion plans and the significant drop in the Caspian Sea’s water level over the past five years.
