Rijeka – The operator of Croatia’s Rijeka port said it has received two bids in a tender for awarding concession contract to develop, operate and manage the new Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal (ZDSCT) at the port.
The first bid was submitted by a 70/20/10 Chinese consortium of Ningbo Zhoushan Port Company, Tianjin Port Overseas Holding and China Road and Bridge Corporation, Rijeka Port Authority (RPA) said in a statement on Monday when the bids were opened.
The second offer was submitted by a 51/49 consortium made up by Netherlands’ APM Terminals BV and Croatia’s Energia Naturalis (ENNA) Logic, the statement reads.
The estimated cost of the project is 350 million euro ($401 million), according to the project description published on the website of the European Commission back in 2018.
The Rijeka port authority competed the construction of ZDSCT in May 2019, following a 112.5 million euro investment by the World Bank and Croatia’s state budget. The terminal, 400 metres in length, is expected to be expanded to 680 metres later. It is 20 metres deep, which will allow the port to receive the latest generation of container ships. ZDSCT is part of the Rijeka Gateway project, which aims to improve Rijeka port’s transport and infrastructure network.
