Crews on pace to finish Navarre Beach re-nourishment before tourist season kicks off

Posted on January 9, 2025

NAVARRE BEACH, Fla. — Crews on Navarre Beach are making progress on a $11 million beach re-nourishment project.

A dredging ship will pull sand from offshore and load it onto the beach. The goal is to repair erosion from Hurricane Sally in 2020.

Crews have been actively replacing the sand for the last two weeks. The project should be finished just in time for tourist season.

Tuesday afternoon, crews were seen preparing for the next phase in the project — connecting large tubes to process the dredging.

A boat will connect offshore and dredge up sand that will pump through the black pipes, adding more sand to the beach.

Since December, crews have been working around the clock to get the dredging done.

County officials say they ran into mechanical issues a few weeks into the project, as the connection to the discharge line was damaged.

The project starts 900 feet east of the Navarre Beach Pier and stretches west to Gulf Islands National Seashore property.

Crews will restore about 18,000 feet of beach altogether.
