CPRA Completes Largest Restoration Project to Date

Posted on July 14, 2020

#ThrowbackThursday The 13-mile Caminada Headlands restored a vital barrier between Port Fourchon and the Gulf of Mexico, providing storm surge protection for the nation’s leading energy port that services 90 percent of the offshore rigs and platforms in the Gulf. This was the largest CPRA restoration project to date, restoring 1,060 acres using 8.84 million cubic yards of dredged sand from the Gulf of Mexico.
This project is a another great example of a Louisiana Coastal Master Plan restoration project that delivers multiple benefits: restores land, provides habitat, and increases protection from storm surge events.
Project Partners: Bureau of Ocean Energy Management | National Fish and Wildlife Foundation | Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries | Port Fourchon
