At a special meeting on July 9, the Dare Board of Commissioners approved a budget amendment authorizing County Manager Bobby Outten to appropriate $1 million from the county’s projected fiscal year 2015 budget surplus for the county Inlet Maintenance Fund and then transfer that amount to the state’s Shallow Draft Navigational Channel Dredging and Lake Maintenance Fund.

With an additional $1 million reported to still be available in that fund from FY 2015, the state would be able to match the county’s appropriation, making a total of $2 million immediately available for dredging at Oregon Inlet.
