A committee of the Terrbonne Parish Council has approved a resolution to spend up to $20 million on coastal restoration projects.
The projects include finishing the lock system in Montegut, building pumps on land Shell Oil could donate to the parish, beginning the preliminary engineering for the Petit Caillou drainage project, building a pump station at the Chacahoula Basin and another pump at the Bayou Black Pump Station.
“We’ve already moved a million dollars to the Montegut project for the engineering,” said Parish President Gordy Dove. “This would fund the $9 million that’s left on that project in Montegut.”
The Valhi Boulevard Levee Project is was approved for an additional $215,000 to be spent for two needed 30-inch pumps, according to the parish president.
The council also approved to co-sponsor several upcoming festivals throughout the parish. The council has approved to co-sponsor the Bayou Dularge Knights of Columbus Cajun Fair next month, the sixth-annual Bayou Beer Festival in November and the Taste of Jamaica event next month.
Two sidewalk projects were approved to improve the sidewalks along La. 24 and West Park for $40,000 and $35,000, respectively. The council approved a resolution to upgrade the light poles at Boundary Road Football Field, Babe Ruth Baseball Field and one additional baseball field in Recreation District 11.
These resolutions were passed by their respective committees and will go to the full Parish Council at today’s meeting.
