NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for clearing and grubbing White, Cypress and Bayou Baton Rouge Bayous as part of the Comite River Diversion project.
The contract to clear and snag the three bayous was awarded to J.A.T. Trucking and Construction Services, LLC of Gonzales, LA, on September 30, 2025. The contract amount is $3,385,795.00. Work for the contract will be performed in East Baton Rouge Parish.
“The Corps is excited to officially award the final contract for its construction of the Comite River Diversion project, a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to enhance flood risk reduction and resilience in the region,” said Col. Scotty Autin, Commander of the New Orleans District. “This project is a testament to our commitment to safeguarding communities, and we are proud to see it move forward to the next phase.”
The Comite River Diversion Project is located in East Baton Rouge Parish, LA in the southern portion of the Comite River Basin. The Project will provide urban flood risk reduction from rainfall events/headwater flooding for residents in this watershed. The primary project features include a control structure at the Comite River, a control structure at Lilly Bayou, three control rock chutes at the intersections of the diversion channel with White, Cypress and Bayou Baton Rouge Bayous, clearing and snagging of each bayou, two railroad bridges, four highway bridges, and one parish road bridge. The Non-Federal Sponsor, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) is responsible for the construction of three highway and one railroad bridge.
