Conrad Shipyard Holds First in Class Recognition Ceremony for Cutting-Edge YRBM Vessel for the U.S. Navy

Conrad Shipyard, LLC held a first in class recognition ceremony at Conrad’s Amelia Island Shipyard in late July for the U.S. Navy’s YRBM (Yard, Repair, Berthing & Messing Barge). Conrad signed in 2022 a contract to build up to eight YRBM’s for $140 million. The YRBM barge provides a temporary home away from home and workplace for our service men and women whose vessels are in port for repairs and maintenance.

The YRBM 57 is 151′ x 49′ x 14′ barge with a full load draft of 6’8″, and an air draft of 60’11”, with a full displacement of 1,270 LT. The barge is ABS A1 that can provide living pier side accommodations for 199 duty crew of mixed gender personnel and mess facilities that can accommodate 300. There is also space for medical offices, storerooms, classrooms, laundry rooms and lounge areas.

Hosting the ceremony was Dan Conrad, Sr. VP & Director of Conrad Shipyard with special guests U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, Congressman Troy Carter, 2nd District, La. and Congressman Garrett Graves, 6th District, La, Captain Mitchell, U.S. Navy and Father Patrick Riviere of The Diocese of Houma Thibodaux.
