A COLERAINE-based waste and environmental specialist has secured a new £3.5 million government contract in the Republic.

ATG Group, founded in 2006, has struck the major deal with the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine to treat and dispose contaminated dredge material, with work already underway. The contract follows a £1m investment in the business to help boost export sales, which has directly led to the creation of 14 jobs, 10 of which are already in place..

Managing director of ATG Group, Dr Mark McKinney said the latest deal is a result of the major investment made in the business.

“This has meant we have been able to win this major contract in partnership with ABCO Marine in Killybegs Harbour,” he said.

“In the past three years our sales have more than quadrupled and our reputation in the waste recycling sector is rapidly growing.”

“Our next steps will be to expand into new markets, particularly Europe and Africa,” he added.

Invest NI has worked with ATG for the last number of years and offered the company £98,700 of support to create the new jobs and to undertake a range of marketing activities. The company has also availed of technical assistance to develop and trial innovative new treatment processes.

Invest NI’s north west regional manager, Des Gartland said they were delighted to be supporting the growing company.

“Our support has allowed the company greater flexibility to bid for bigger contracts, including this recent contract at Killybegs Harbour and puts this company in a strong position to secure further business in this market.”

ATG Group provides specialist services in environmental remediation, waste management and invasive species treatment.
