Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville has a new man in charge following a Tuesday change of command ceremony.
Capt. Mark Vlaun relieved Capt. Todd Wiemers during the ceremony at Naval Station Mayport, taking over command of a patrol area encompassing 40,000 square miles of ocean and inland waterways stretching from Kings Bay in Georgia to Port Malabar in Florida. Rear Adm. Peter J. Brown, commander of the 7th Coast Guard District, presided over the ceremony.
Vlaun came to his new command from Sector Miami where he was deputy commander. Wiemers ships out to Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington to become assistant commandant for the reserves.
Sector Jacksonville has more than 1,300 active-duty, reserve and civilian personnel, three small boat stations, five cutters, two aids-to-navigation teams and a marine safety detachment, the Coast Guard said.
