Shipping group CMA CGM is implementing alternative transport methods to maintain trade flows to and from the Middle East. The company states its primary concern is the safety of personnel given navigational restrictions affecting the Strait of Hormuz.
The firm is utilizing its global network to establish multimodal options involving sea, rail, and road transport. It has organized secure logistics corridors originating from the ports of Khor Fakkan, Fujairah, and Sohar, which are situated south of the strait. From these points, services connect to major hubs in the United Arab Emirates and other nations around the Arabian Gulf using regional road and maritime links.
Another alternative route uses the Red Sea port of Jeddah. From there, the company has set up road corridors for delivery to destinations in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq. This configuration also allows for connections to the Mediterranean and Asia without transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
A third major alternative involves ports in the Sultanate of Oman, which provide road connections to the UAE and northern Gulf countries, sometimes combined with feeder services. The company states this multimodal organization is designed to ensure continuity and efficiency for regional and cross-border supply chains.
Through these measures, CMA CGM asserts it can anticipate geopolitical risks and deliver flexible logistics solutions in support of international trade.
