SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Sioux City City Council has approved a contract, for $60,000, for their Marina Dredging Project.
In 2024 River City Hospitality, which leases the marina, said it would not open the marina, or nearby bar, due to low water levels.
The city’s Parks and Rec Director, Matt Salvatore, said in May 2024, “If the dock repair, and especially the dredging work isn’t performed, then the marina wouldn’t be able to open for the 2024 boating season.”
The project the city council approved Monday night will pay for the removal of sediment, and dredging, in the marina.
“We’re not going two seasons and not have boaters around here,” said Sioux City mayor Bob Scott. “You only have a short-term opportunity in the wintertime to dredge and we’re getting it done.”
Work on the project is expected to be completed before the end of March.
