China’s Sinohydro company’s dredger starts dredging in Padma at Shimulia
Munshiganj: China’s Sinohydro Company’s dredger has started dredging work in the river Padma at Shimulia riverine route point. The dredger could not remove silt deposited on the river bed due to strong current during the daytime on Sunday and during the day- and night-time on Saturday.
The dredging work remained suspended due to the difficulties in setting up upstream pipelines for removal of the silt in the wake of strong current in the river. However, the dredger started removing the silt at about 6.30pm after installing the upstream shifting pipes with great efforts throughout the day on Sunday.
BIWTA superintending engineer (Dredging) Saidur Rahman and executive engineer (Dredging) Sultan Uddin Ahmed said that the Sinohydro’s dredger could not perform dredging work due to strong current in the river Padma. The dredging work resumed at about 6.30pm after installing the upstream shifting pipes with great efforts throughout the day on Sunday.
