Cemex partners with Couch Aggregates, Premier Holdings

Posted on July 17, 2024

Cemex established a joint-venture agreement with Couch Aggregates, a sand and gravel supplier, and Premier Holdings, a marine bulk product distributor.

Cemex says the agreement is part of its strategy to accelerate growth in the U.S. and expand its aggregate business.

According to Cemex, the joint venture will strengthen its aggregate reserves with the production, distribution and sale of sand, gravel and limestone in the Mid-South, increasing its presence and providing better and faster service to the region.

“This joint venture will create significant opportunities for both parties by utilizing vertical integration and leveraging each other’s capabilities for growth,” says Jaime Muguiro, president of Cemex U.S. “We remain committed to increasing our capacity to serve the U.S. market with more sustainable and innovative solutions.”

Couch Aggregates, which Cemex describes as a “longtime strategic partner,” serves the Southeast with crushed stone, sand and gravel. Couch Aggregates ranks 34th on the U.S. Geological Survey’s list of the nation’s top 100 crushed stone producers.

Premier Holdings, meanwhile, operates Gulf Coast marine terminals, facilitating the distribution of heavy building materials to wider markets.

Back in 2020, Cemex focused on rebalancing its portfolio toward the U.S., increasing its percentage of EBITDA contribution from 24 percent to 29 percent. The company says it intends to increase this to 40 percent in the medium term by increasing the growth capex and investing divestment proceeds to the region.
