In 2019 Cashman Dredging & Marine Contracting Company, LLC filed several patents to explore incorporating light detection and ranging (LiDAR) technology into dredging and marine construction activities aboard dredges and tugs.
LiDAR produces a 360-degree 3D landscape of stationary and non-stationary objects in real-time, using mounted sensors to emit billions of light photons per second across a landscape. These photons bounce back to the sensor, which then calculates distance and time to each object, day or night.
By measuring the physical environment with LiDAR and crunching the data with artificial intelligence, Cashman will be able to have a clear picture of potential safety hazards in and around operating vessels and marine equipment on the water in a way like never before.
Cashman prides itself on pushing the boundary and never settling for the status quo. The safety of our men and women and protecting the environment are non-negotiable.
