We’re pleased to announce that Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting Co. was honored last week in Washington, D.C., with a national safety award recognizing the company’s continued excellence in safety leadership and workforce development.
Stephen Aykroyd and Rob Labbe received Safety Leadership Awards from the Committee on Dredging and Marine Construction Safety (CDMCS) for their roles in advancing Cashman’s Safety Trainee / Junior Safety Manager Professional Development Program, an initiative that reflects Cashman’s long-term investment in building a strong, sustainable safety culture across marine operations.
Steve was recognized for his leadership as a mentor and trainer, providing strategic guidance, technical expertise, and structured coaching to early-career safety professionals, while ensuring consistent application of Cashman’s safety standards across active projects.
Rob was recognized as one of the program’s first Safety Trainees to successfully progress through its full development pathway. Under Steve’s mentorship, Rob has demonstrated strong field leadership, operational discipline, and the ability to translate training into on-site results.

Cashman’s Safety Trainee / Junior Safety Manager Program focuses on developing future safety leaders through comprehensive onboarding, field shadowing, live project exposure, and industry certifications, while creating clear career pathways and supporting long-term retention within the dredging industry.
Congratulations to Steve, Rob, and the entire Cashman team on this well-deserved national recognition. Rob L. Steve Aykroyd, CHST Erik Haruch CSP
