BOATIES are hoping dredging near Cardwell boat ramps can gain approval as low tides continue to dip and restrict access to the water.
Preliminary work on the dredging spoil ponds at Hinchinbrook Harbour has begun.
Concerns have been raised about boaties’ safety after the Cardwell Coast Guard posted a photograph of the muddy marina to Facebook this week.
Hinchinbrook MP Andrew Cripps said sediment built up in the canal over time.
“I have previously made it quite clear to them that the issue is a matter of priority,” he said.
“I share frustrations of the Coast Guard and local boaties about the lack of access at low tide.”
Mr Cripps blamed the previous owner for leaving the marina “in a state of disrepair”.
Remedial dredging was done by the Queensland Government in 2011 after Cyclone Yasi.
“Since that remedial dredging I am not unaware of any other dredging taking place,” he said. Mr Cripps is hoping for a speedy resolution.
