Most if not all of the vessels at the Port of Anacortes’ northern docks at the Cap Sante Marina have been moved out of the way in anticipation of a $2.3 million dredging and dock repair project.
The general contractor, Pacific Pile & Marine of Seattle, is scheduled to start mobilizing on site the week of Monday, Nov. 14, and beginning work that Wednesday, said project manager Jenkins Dossen.
The dredging will start at M dock and progress east to N and O docks, Dossen said.
The dredged materials will be taken to a handling facility in Seattle by way of barge and loaded onto rail cars for disposal at a Republic Services facility in Roosevelt.
The material was previously tested and found to be unsuitable for open-water disposal. Contaminants are those from the lumber industry and bottom boat paint, Dossen had told the commission earlier this year.
Approximately 5,100 cubic yards of material will be dredged. The work is necessary due to frequent grounding of dock floats at low tide causing damage them.
The contract with Pacific Pile & Marine is for $1.7 million, which includes allowances for contract change orders, construction oversight services and project administration.
