Dredging Industry Veteran to Contribute to Callan’s Growth and Leadership
GALVESTON, TX – March 25, 2020 – Callan Marine, LTD. is proud to introduce Arie van den Adel as their new Chief Operating Officer. A 30-year veteran of the dredging industry, van den Adel has served as a Dredging Operations Consultant since 2018, managing a great variety of dredging projects around the globe.
With a bachelors’ degree in Civil Engineering and a family rooted in construction, van den Adel became emerged in dredging projects working for Boskalis, primarily in the Far East. As a young superintendent, he was involved with large reclamation projects, port deepenings and maintenance dredging with a variety of dredge equipment. Various projects took him to Tanzania, Singapore, and then to Houston, Texas. From 2000 to 2006, van den Adel worked as project manager for the cutter suction dredge Meridian (now EW Ellefsen), then venturing worldwide on projects varying from capital, maintenance and environmental dredging to Heavy Marine Transport with Boskalis subsidiary Dockwise. The most remarkable project was a bauxite mining project in South America, where a 2,500 ton cutter suction dredge was hauled deep into the jungle to dredge 20 million m³ of overburden overlaying a rich bauxite resource.
“When working for Bean Stuyvesant, Maxie McGuire (President, Callan Marine, LTD.) and myself were teamed up as Project Managers for the execution of two beach renourishment contracts in Boca Raton and Delray Beach. We stayed in contact over the years and when Maxie explained the ambition and vision of Callan in the US dredging industry, it was really attractive to me,” explained van den Adel.
Callan Marine is thrilled to have van den Adel join their leadership team. “We are very excited to welcome Arie, his wife Marina, and their three children to our work family,” stated Maxie McGuire, President of Callan Marine. “I have known Arie for over 20 years, having worked together as young project managers, and knew when we launched our latest growth initiative that I wanted him on the team, if we were fortunate enough to attract him. With his leadership and management talents, dredging skills, and commitment to our vision and mission, there is no limit to the great things that are ahead.”
Callan Marine’s management structure and the unique dredging opportunities excite van den Adel. “There are enormous opportunities for the dredging industry in the US market. The next five to seven years will place an emphasis on capital deepening for seaports, but there are also several medium to large marsh restoration and beach renourishment projects, all suited for a large cutter suction dredge. The Callan Marine cutter suction dredge General MacArthur will perfectly fit that league, and with its diesel-electric drive, it is a game changer amongst the competition,” stated van den Adel.
