Callan Marine, alongside Nueces County officials and the residents of Corpus Christi proudly celebrated the groundbreaking of the Bob Hall Pier Rebuild Project on Monday, October 7, 2024.
After Hurricane Hanna delivered a devastating blow in 2020, Nueces County officials committed to rebuilding the Bob Hall Pier. The long-awaited groundbreaking follows three years of project negotiations, public input gathering, and discussion on the design that was presented to the commissioners, and Callan Marine, Ltd. was awarded the bid to construct the new pier in May, with the county’s overall budget for the project being $28.5M.
The new pier will be over 1,200 feet long, and 20 feet wide and will include both a ramp and an ADA ramp. It will feature a 50×50 covered structure in the water, and another 50×50 area to the side which will be considered for future use as a third-party concession.
“Callan Marine is proud to be a part of the rebirth of such an iconic fishing and surfing spot on the Texas coast,” remarked Greg Harner, Chief Operating Officer – Marine Construction Division. “Our marine construction assets are well equipped to deliver on time and on budget for Nueces County, and we are honored to partner with such great leadership.”
The new pier will have a 50-year lifespan that could weather a 100-year storm. It will sport a pier trestle designed to withstand 150 mph winds. To help stabilize the project during the rebuild, Callan Marine will lay a 960-linear-foot trestle out into the water by the end of October. The project is anticipated to be completed in February 2026, and both residents and visitors are excited about the many opportunities the renovated pier will provide.
