Caldwell Marine International, a JAG Company recently completed the Martha’s Vineyard cable lay project in the US, which involved two separate cable runs from the Mainland in Falmouth, MA, to Martha’s Vineyard Island. Both runs were completed within a single rental period using two of our 15-tonne breakback tensioners.
Each cable run came with its own unique technical requirements, yet the tensioners’ capability to work in tandem and handle the 180 mm cable size meant Caldwell could smoothly complete the Martha’s Vineyard–Falmouth hybrid cable installation. This was well within our 15-tonne tensioner capacity, as they can manage cable diameters from 50-400 mm.
Before work began, our team managed full delivery and mobilisation requirements and spent time on site delivering pre-project setup and operational training to Caldwell’s crew. This meant Caldwell could take full ownership from day one, with the tensioners integrated on the cable lay barge and their crew were confident in running the equipment themselves.
With training and logistics support in place, and the tensioners capable of handling the hybrid cables, Caldwell moved through the installations using their own team, keeping momentum from one cable lay run to the next.
