Headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, BYG has been manufacturing and distributing spare parts and components for the mining/earth moving, sector since 1967. Recently BYG has started to market to the dredging sector. At WODCON XXI, BYG introduced a hammerless system for cutter head teeth which offers significant advantages for dredge operators:
1.Safety: Typically Cutter Teeth are mounted and dismounted with a pin requiring the use of a hammer, usually involving metal-on-metal blows. The ability to install pins using the BYG Hammerless system results in increased safety for the crew (zero chance of eye injury, and vastly reduced chance of injuring hands). Overall safety on the cutter platform will be increased.
2.Uptime: Changing cutter teeth is quicker using BYG Hammerless pins. Removal/Installation does not require special tools and can be performed with minimal instruction. Your dredge will require less installation time which means more time producing results.
3.Avoid losing cutter teeth: The BYG Hammerless pin locks on the tooth itself, which reduces the chance of the pin being lost during dredging. Loosing teeth is sometimes the case due to worn out adaptors, vibrations, and deformation of the tooth – adaptor connection. A typical sandwich pin can become loose and drop out resulting in the tooth falling off the adaptor. This leaves the adapter vulnerable to contact with the dredging material. After only a couple minutes of wear the adapter can be irreversibly damaged and require replacement. The BYG Hammerless system is designed to reduce the chance of coming loose, and ultimately prevent loss of tooth and adapter.
4.Reduced Replacement Need: Using the BYG Hammerless system you are less likely to lose cutter teeth, which also means less damaged adapters. This will increase the up-time of your dredging equipment and reduces the maintenance cost.
BYG Teeth have the same lifetime compared to OEM supplied teeth and are designed to fit on current adaptors and BYG adapters universally, avoiding the need to replace your current adapter system. A wide range of teeth are available, including obsolete OEM systems.BYG is represented in the US by North American Components Corp (www.nacc1.com).
