Last week a unique working visit was concluded by delegation from Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 to learn and share dredging experiences and showcase the development and specialized available equipment in the Netherlands.🇳🇱
The delegation, led by Yaya Traoré (Director General, ONBAH), visited Amsterdam; World Waternet, Waternet , Waterschap Amstel, Gooi en Vecht, and the dredging fleet at the Papaverweg for an inspiring day packed with insights and exchange.
The second day visits were paid to dredging boat companies Royal IHC and DE Klop BV including the dredging museum in Sliedrecht. The Burkina Faso flag was raised at Royal IHC next to the Dutch flag to underline the warm welcome.
Clearly, dredging in the Netherlands is a core part of Dutch history, culture, and national identity, driven by the country’s constant battle against water and need for land reclamation. While dredging is crucial for maintaining ports, creating land, and protecting coasts from flooding, in Burkina Faso dredging is urgently needed to maintain drinkingwater and irrigation reservoirs to allow for sustainable agricultural development.💦🌱
The Delegation leader was challenged to operate a beaver dredging boat on a simulater.
