Bureau of Land Management sand and gravel sale generates more than $7.6 million

Posted on July 1, 2024

LAS VEGAS –The Las Vegas Field Office today sold a contract for the extraction of 2,500,000 million tons of sand and gravel from the Lone Mountain Community Pit for $7,625,000.

Mineral materials (sand and gravel) are used in everyday construction, agriculture, and decorative applications.  Highways, bridges, power plants, dams, high-rise buildings, railroad beds and airport runways, along with their foundations and sidewalks, all use mineral materials of one type or another.

The Las Vegas Field Office manages one of the largest BLM mineral materials programs in the nation featuring five active community pits and dozens of individual use areas that produce several million tons of sand and gravel per year. Last fiscal year, the Las Vegas Field Office sold close to $4.5 million dollars of sand and gravel.
