Brightlingsea Harbour Dredging

Posted on February 1, 2016

Activity is already underway to remove the pontoon sections, and it is expected that both marina basins will be clear by 16th January, to enable dredging to commence 18th January.

The dredging will be undertaken by Port Flair Ltd, a small family owned company that operates from Bradwell Marina. The operation will be undertaken using a grab dredge into a hopper that will then allow the silt to be pumped into the Creek. It is assessed that it will take 9 weeks to complete the task – this is deliberately slow in order to allow the silt to disperse.

Dredging will commence with the approach channel using a plow dredge to allow access for the grab dredger. At the same time the outer perimeter will be dredged to remove the silt ‘over spilling’ from the Creek. The grab dredger will then work its way into the smaller basin which will take a couple of weeks to clear, before then tackling the main basin.
