Brentwood City Administrator Bola Akande told Fox 2 News on Thursday that city officials are in discussions with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to obtain a permit to dredge sections of Deer Creek/Black Creek within the city limits.
Also, Akande said there were 30 addresses impacted by the flooding earlier this week, with damage estimated to be upwards of $667,000.
A statement posted on the Brentwood city website earlier in the week indicated that Deer Creek crosses multiple jurisdictions, and the $32 million cost estimate of channelizing it is cost prohibitive for one municipality. The statement goes on to say that’s why Brentwood is applying for funding assistance through SEMA (State Emergency Management Agency) and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency).
The statement indicates that in December, 26 properties, including two residential, were impacted by flooding. In the spring, 11 properties were impacted.
The City of Brentwood has a flood mitigation assistance application that has been turned into FEMA, but officials won’t know if it has been awarded until next month.
