Posted on April 28, 2025

The Brazilian government is planning to offer a concession involving investment of 1bn reais (US$175mn) for the access channel to the Paranaguá and Antonina port complex in Paraná state during the second half of this year.

The contract was approved by the audit court on Wednesday.

“With the approval, the ports and airports ministry will launch, in the coming months, the notice for the auction,” the ministry said in a statement.

“The expectation is that the concessionaire will be responsible for managing the asset for 25 years, with the possibility of an extension for up to 70 years.”

The concession involves dredging, demolition work, signaling, bathymetry and environmental monitoring, and increasing the draft to 15.5m from 13m, allowing the port to receive larger ships.

According to the ministry, the government is also planning to offer concession contracts for the access channels to Santos port, in São Paulo state, and Itajaí in Santa Catarina.

However, it did not provide further details.
