Our colleagues at Boskalis Westminster in the UK have secured a three-year contract for the maintenance dredging of the Port of Aberdeen in Scotland. In recent months, several storms have washed significant amounts of sediment into the port. To ensure that berths and navigation channels remain safe and fully operational for vessels up to 300 meters in length, this material needs to be removed. The first maintenance campaign will be carried out later this year by our trailing suction hopper dredger Freeway, supported by a bed-leveling vessel.
What makes this project particularly special is its location. The Port of Aberdeen lies right on the doorstep of one of our branches. Known as the “subsea capital of Europe”, Aberdeen is also home to Boskalis Subsea Services and its fleet of advanced diving support vessels. Over the next three years, we will quite literally maintain their home port, just as Boskalis Westminster has successfully done in the past.
