Boskalis: We call our Rockpiper to the stage

Posted on June 23, 2025

Following the successful showcase of our semi-submersible heavy transport vessel Mighty Servant 1, which displayed TenneT‘s impressive DolWin epsilon platform on deck, and the recent collaboration of our oceangoing tugs BOKA Sweeper, BOKA Keeper, BOKA Striker and Princess with regard to the tow-out and installation of the platform, another distinguished member of our fleet is now taking center stage. Our subsea rock installation vessel Rockpiper has started ballasting the yellow platform in the offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 3 with solid ballast material.

For this project, the Rockpiper has been specially equipped with a solid ballast spread on the aft deck, enabling it to pump solid ballast material – eclogite, a high density rock material – into the four legs of DolWin epsilon. The solid ballasting follows the complemented water ballasting (executed by our subsidiary SMIT Salvage) of DolWin epsilon. The solid ballasting is necessary to keep the platform in the right position on the seabed for decades, even in stormy conditions. Additionally, utilizing its inclined fallpipe, the Rockpiper will install armour rock around DolWin epsilon to provide scour protection.
