Boskalis: “Just” 260 kilometers to go

Posted on February 18, 2026

Preparing cable routes for a future offshore wind farm is a time-consuming operation. This is certainly true in the Baltic Sea, off the Polish coast. In the very first stage, a geotechnical soil investigation must be carried out to determine the specific ground conditions. Boskalis’ subsidiary Gardline Limited was called in for this activity. Afterwards, specialists from Boskalis Hirdes checked the intended route for any unexploded ordnance (UXO). And now it is the turn of our construction support vessel BOKA Falcon to prepare the cable route.

Last year, the vessel started removing large boulders from both the inter-array cables routes and the export cable route from Ørsted’s and PGE’s 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm to the mainland. The impressive T-Rex plough was deployed for this task. Towards the end of 2025, it was time for the Megalodon trencher, with which the BOKA Falcon once again sailed over the export and array cable route to prepare the seabed for cable installation later this year. This operation will be carried out by our cable-laying vessels Ndurance and Boka Ocean.

The BOKA Falcon has now completed the first part of the trenching campaign. All inter-array cable routes have been prepared over a total length of 150 kilometers. The vessel has recently started the second and final phase of this extensive project: trenching the export cable route, with a total length of 260 kilometers. We wish the project team and vessel crew every success with this impressive operation.
