Heavy marine transport operations are regularly one-off operations. In the case of Boskalis’ involvement in the development of Ørsted‘s Greater Changhua 2 offshore wind farm, however, this is not the case. This year, we are transporting a total of 66 three-legged jacket foundations from the port of Taichung in Taiwan to the offshore wind farm, where they will then be installed directly on the seabed.
The advantage of this is that the trips made by our semi-submersible heavy transport vessels Black Marlin and Blue Marlin for this purpose are almost identical. And so we can demonstrate our ability to learn and improve ourselves even further where possible. Since our first sail out in March, we have successfully transported over one third of the total amount of jackets. So the pace in Taiwan is high and it is a coming and going of loaded – and unloaded – heavy transport vessels.
A special feature of the project is that Boskalis is involved with as many as six vessels. In addition to the Black Marlin and Blue Marlin, our heavy transport vessels Mighty Servant 1 and Transshelf transported crucial components for the offshore wind farm, and our construction support vessels BOKA Atlantic and BOKA Pride are currently still active for Greater Changhua 2. With this fleet of versatile heavy transport and construction support vessels, Boskalis is proud to facilitate the development of the 920 MW offshore wind farms in the Taiwan Strait. We wish the vessel crews and project team the best of luck with the execution of this multifaceted project.
