In the maritime sector, projects can last from a few weeks to several years. For Boskalis, the 640MW Yunlin OWF project in Taiwan falls into the latter category – and that’s an understatement. More than five years after our subsea rock installation vessel (SRIV) Seahorse installed the first rocks in the offshore wind farm in the Taiwan Strait, our SRIV Seapiper has now placed the final rocks in their correct position on the seabed.
Thus, after more than five years, an era has come to an end. Our two SRIVs have played a crucial role, installing more than 1 million tons of rock for scour protection. Additionally, our trailing suction hopper dredgers Beachway, Crestway and Shoreway were active participants in the construction of the offshore wind farm and dredged almost 20 million cubic meters of sand over the years, alongside our water injection dredger Terra Plana that also played an important role during the installation activities of the offshore wind farm. Our vessels carried out a range of activities to enable the installation of the monopiles, cables and wind turbine generators of the offshore wind farm and to protect the installed assets from scouring.
We extend our gratitude to our client, Yunneng Wind Power Co., Ltd., for its trust and cooperation throughout this long-term project, and we thank our vessel crews for their dedication during their involvement in the construction of the Yunlin offshore wind farm.
