Royal Boskalis Westminster has completed the acquisition of offshore wind-related activities of VolkerWessels. Boskalis said the transaction would strengthen its position in “the attractive, growing offshore wind energy market.” The activities acquired by Boskalis include VBMS, Stemat and Volker Stevin International (VSI).
VBMS is a market leader in offshore cable installation with a strong market position and well-filled orderbook. Boskalis already held 50 per cent of the shares in VBMS and has acquired the remaining 50 per cent through the transaction.
Stemat has a range of specialised floating equipment and a diverse fleet that includes a cable-laying vessel and multipurpose vessels. VSI specialises in the construction of offshore foundations and maritime construction.
In late 2014 and mid-2015 respectively, a joint venture of Boskalis and VSI acquired two large offshore wind projects, Wikinger and Veja Mate. As a result of this transaction Boskalis will execute these projects on a 100 per cent basis. The newly acquired companies will be consolidated into Boskalis accounts as of the third quarter this year.
