Using trailing suction hopper dredgers Causeway and Strandway and backhoe dredger Manu Pekka, our Boskalis Westminster colleagues recently completed another dredging project in Southampton, UK. The project consisted of two phases: first, a survey of 73 targets for the presence of unexploded ordnance (UXO) and a smaller number of potential archaeological interest. And after ruling out the presence of UXO or objects of archaeological value, the second phase began: dredging 200,000 cubic meters of dense heavy clay from the access channel and around the jetty. The dredged material was collected in our split hopper barges Terraferre 301 and 302 and then transported to a designated disposal area using our pusher tug Terramare 1.
In the past years, weโve worked on a regular basis in Southampton, including last year with the Causeway and backhoe dredger Magnor. We therefore thank Associated British Ports for the excellent cooperation in all those years.
