We remember the installation of the first cable for the Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm as if it were yesterday. Installed by our then brand-new cable-laying vessel BOKA Ocean in the German part of the North Sea, it marked the start of an exciting journey. Now, more than 18 months and four installation campaigns later, the BOKA Ocean has successfully laid the final inter-array cable for Ørsted‘s 913 MW offshore wind farm. As well as some additional fiber optic cables and marine detection systems.
This is a wonderful milestone for both the development of Ørsted’s renewable energy project and for our vessel, which worked in close partnership with our multipurpose offshore vessel Ndeavor. While the BOKA Ocean installed the cables, the Ndeavor followed to bury them. A great collaboration that delivered excellent results.
Borkum Riffgrund 3, that recently achieved first power, is familiar territory for Boskalis. Earlier this year, we installed the DolWin epsilon offshore converter station here with the help of several of our powerful oceangoing tugs and the subsea rock installation vessel Rockpiper. As the saying goes, all good things come to an end. And that also applies to the development of this offshore wind farm.
We thank the crews of all our vessels involved for their commitment and our client Ørsted for their trust and excellent collaboration.
