In recent years, we have known our cable-laying vessel Ndurance mainly from cable installations in the North Sea. But in the meantime, the vessel has sailed halfway around the world and is currently in Taiwan. There, the vessel will be installing two export cables with a total length of 42.5 kilometers, which is almost equivalent to the distance of a marathon, for the 294.5 MW offshore wind farm TPC2.
To get to Taiwan, the Ndurance made several stopovers. After carrying out its last project in Greece, the vessel sailed through Spain, Gibraltar, South Africa, Singapore and South Korea – where the cable was loaded in Donghae – to its final destination in Taiwan. These stopovers were necessary to load stores and equipment as well as to bunker for its long journey. The advantage of the stopover in South Africa was that the crew of the Ndurance was assisted by their colleagues from Boskalis’ subsidiary SMIT Salvage, which manage a maritime emergency response center in Cape Town.
We wish the project team and crew of the Ndurance every success with the installation of the cables and thank all colleagues who contributed to the vessel’s mobilization and journey from Europe to Taiwan.
