Canals in Stroud have been restored after dredging work was completed to allow more boat trips and wildlife to be supported.
The work was mainly funded by developers Newland Homes ahead of a show-home opening on January 14.
Guildford-based Land & Water dredging company carried out the work to dredge the 350 metre length of canal along the front of Bowbridge Wharf, using a 22 tonne Water King amphibious excavator.
More than 2,000 tonnes of silt was removed from the Thames and Severn Canal between Bowbridge and the Arundel Aqueduct in the project supported by Stroud District Council.
It will enable residents in the 36 home canalside development at Bowbridge Wharf to have a clearer, tidier canalside view.
The canal channel will be in a more useable state for boat trips and for those who enjoy the wildlife supported by the restored canal.
Gail Remnant, sales manager at Newland Homes, said: “Enabling improvement works to the canal was a very important part of building the Bowbridge Wharf development, not only for our buyers but also for everyone to be able to enjoy the canal.
“We pride ourselves on redeveloping areas in a sensitive manner and creating modern homes of excellent quality.
“We will continue to work with the Cotswold Canals Trust and Stroud District Council to further improve the canal and its setting.”
