Maintenance dredging of Great Salt Pond and of Block Island Harbor of Refuge are included in U.S. Army Corps of Engineers FY2022 budget.
NEW SHOREHAM, RI — President Joe Biden’s proposed fiscal 2022 budget provides $6.8 billion for Army Corps of Engineers civil works programs, and several Rhode Island projects stand to benefit, the USACE New England District has announced.
In New Shoreham, a combined $700,000 is proposed for maintenance dredging of Great Salt Pond and of the Block Island Harbor of Refuge, the agency said in a news release.
Elsewhere in Rhode Island, $38.6 million would fund maintenance dredging of Providence River and Harbor. A study to investigate navigation improvements in Little Narragansett Bay is set to receive $500,000. Funding for operation and maintenance of the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier and the Woonsocket flood risk management project is also included in the budget.
The federal fiscal year begins on Oct. 1.
