Bilbao PortLab has hosted the final demonstration of two innovation projects funded under the second Ports 4.0 call, highlighting advances in digitalisation and real-time monitoring for the port logistics sector.
Two start-ups, Navozyme Maritime Technologies and CLCircular, presented the outcomes of their projects at the Port of Bilbao, both approved in the commercial category of the Ports 4.0 programme financed by Puertos del Estado. The event offered the port community a closer look at technologies designed to improve efficiency, sustainability and transparency in operations.
Digitalisation of MARPOL Services
Navozyme introduced NSwap, a digital platform aimed at streamlining MARPOL e-declarations and enhancing secure data exchange among service providers, ship crews, agents and port authorities. Developed under the Port Clearance Pilot initiative, the solution integrates Blockchain Enabled Electronic Certificates to reinforce trust and security in documentation processes.
The company also showcased NMap, a tool designed to optimise the exchange of pre-arrival and clearance data, including a dedicated hazardous goods module. These solutions have been tested in collaboration with TRADEBE, Alfaship Shipping Agency, and with validation from the Port Authorities and Harbour Master’s Offices of Barcelona, Bilbao and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Real-Time Container Monitoring
For its part, CLCircular reported the successful completion of its project, which included redesigning its cloud platform, launching a new generation of IoT sensors, and conducting battery and sensor validations. These updates allow for more efficient reverse logistics of sensors across 400 destinations.
The technology enables customers to track containerised cargo in real time, including perishable goods such as fruits and vegetables, where time and margins are critical. By reducing cargo losses and avoiding the waste linked to disposable sensor models, the solution offers both economic and environmental benefits.
The demonstration day at Bilbao PortLab underlined the collaborative role of start-ups, established companies, and port authorities in advancing Ports 4.0 initiatives. With these projects, the Port of Bilbao continues to support open innovation and digital transformation within the logistics and maritime ecosystem.
