Bethany Beach’s replenishment project was supposed to start Tuesday, but because of delays in another project, the replenishment is unfortunately behind schedule.
The project is now slated to begin on May 25th, 10 days behind schedule.
Once the project begins, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says at any given point, a 1,000 feet of beach will be closed off to be worked on.
Some local businesses have expressed concern about the late starting date of this project, worrying that it might hurt business.
It seems the businesses have reason for concern as the project isn’t scheduled to be finished for several months.
Ed Voigt, the spokesperson for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District said, “We’ll start late May and finish mid to late June then South Bethany will pick up from there go around mid July and then Fenwick Island which is a smaller portion is mid to late July.”
Two dredges are due to arrive on site on May 25th, and we’re told everything should be complete by July at the latest.
