This one-day workshop will identify beneficial use priorities for dredged material from the Port of Duluth-Superior from 2025 to 2035 using the Dredged Material Decision Tool (DMDT) developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Dredging is the removal of sediment and debris that have gradually filled the bottom of lakes, rivers, harbors, and other water bodies.
The first hour and a half of this workshop (9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.) will be offered in a hybrid (in-person and virtual) format and is open to the public. The hybrid portion of this workshop will provide coastal managers and other interested parties with information on the importance of dredging and beneficial use in the Great Lakes – St. Lawrence Seaway System, followed by a one-hour training on the DMDT. Participation in the in-person portion of the workshop is by invitation only, and is capped at 35 participants.
This workshop is funded by Minnesota’s Lake Superior Coastal Program, Duluth Seaway Port Authority, and with in-kind contributions from Wisconsin Sea Grant.
