The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced a change on Wednesday to the beach restoration schedule for Harvey Cedars and Surf City. Weeks Marine now estimates that work will begin in Harvey Cedars on May 19 – after the remaining pipeline for the project has been laid – and will be ongoing until mid- to late July because of a contract option for more sand.
Operations will move to Surf City after the replenishment in Harvey Cedars is complete.
Weeks Marine still needs “at least six favorable weather days with very calm sea conditions to lay additional pipeline,” USACE Public Affairs Officer Steve Rochette said Wednesday.
“Additionally, we awarded a contract option for additional sand quantity for Harvey Cedars so the schedule has been adjusted accordingly. This adds dredging days to the schedule there.”
He added, “This is an estimate and can change based on weather, dredging productivity and any mechanical issues associated with the dredging equipment.”
For Harvey Cedars, the pipe landing will be made at 68th Street; the contractor will first proceed south and then flip and pump north to the border of Loveladies.
In Surf City, the pipe landing will be made at 25th Street and work will proceed south toward the border of Ship Bottom.
Bergen Avenue in Harvey Cedars is the project staging area, said Rochette, noting, “All of the yellow construction equipment is staged on the beach and fenced off.”

Meanwhile, replenishment is well underway in the Brant Beach section of Long Beach Township, and is expected to finish there by the end of May. On Tuesday, beach access closures included 52nd to 56th streets.
