Posted on October 22, 2020

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — With an investment of nearly 380 million peso, the Secrets Moxche tourism development intends to carry out a beach recovery project in the section located between Xcalacoco and Punta Esmeralda in Riviera Maya.

The Regional Environmental Impact Statement (MIA) for the Secrets Moxche Tourism Development Coastal Protection and Restoration project was submitted for the Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure.

The document indicates that the objective is to stop, reverse and mitigate the effects of the regional process of coastal erosion caused by natural and anthropic factors, which has led to the progressive reduction of the width of the beach and the loss of sand in the system.

In its first phase, the project consists of the construction of three 75-meter-long breakwaters parallel to the coastline occupying an area of 5,670 square meters and the extraction of 28.6 cubic meters of sand from the Mox 1 marine bank to recover the eroded beach in an approximate length of 300 meters.

The second phase includes the expansion of the coastal protection work identified as R1 breakwater and installation of precast solid elements or with certain porosity (wad or reef ball type or similar) and the consolidation and structuring of the dune with the construction of artificial sand.

The project also includes equipping a maneuvering yard on the hotel grounds and a boarding area in the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat), concessioned to the promoter and a marine zone in front of tourist development.
