In nearby Wood County, a potential catastrophe was avoided, after a barge came loose on a river and struck a bridge.
The barge was loaded with what looked like sand or gravel, it drifted down the Little Kanawha River here and struck a bridge post here.
This provoked immediate concern after the recent bridge collapse in Baltimore, especially because you can see a train traveling across the bridge at the time of contact.
Officials inspected the bridge and found no concerns after the hit, a boat was able to get the barge under control without further issue.
Officials say that the incident was quote “minor contact”, and that no danger to the public remains.
