Army Corps of Engineers Studies DuPage River for Potential Flood Projects

Posted on November 23, 2015

By Nathan Lurz,

Long-suffering residents around the DuPage River may be getting some floodwater relief from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers beginning in 2018.

Engineers from the corps and DuPage County Stormwater Management held the second of three public comment opportunities at the county administration building Nov. 17 to add local problem areas to the river feasibility study addressing overbank and backwater flooding along the river through 353 miles of Cook, DuPage and Will counties.

The corps has been working with local officials and visiting more than 20 sites since July 14 to become familiar with flooding issues affecting the about 900,000 residents in the study area.
