Army Corps makes progress with Great Lakes Dredge & Dock on North Strand coastline amid beach renourishment project

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has placed nearly 500,000 cubic yards of sand along the Grand Strand coastline as part of a $72 million renourishment project that began in mid-December.

Crews have been working day and night, starting dredging operations at a small portion of Cherry Grove from 60th Avenue North and moving up the North Strand coastline to 17th Avenue South.

The project aims to place 2 million cubic yards of material by the time crews finish work in Surfside Beach.

Myrtle Beach work to begin soon

Project Manager Sonja Carter said construction in Myrtle Beach could begin as early as next weekend.
