Argentina’s port authority ANPyN launched new tender has been launched for the operation and maintenance of a 1,477km stretch of the Paraná-Paraguay waterway, ten months after a previous process was voided amidst allegations of irregularities and attracted one sole offer.
The contract covers a 1,477km stretch between the so-called Confluencia point and the the Punta Indio canal, where the Plata river flows into the Atlantic, according to bidding documents.
Unlike the previous tender, which entailed a 30-year contract, this new auction involves a 25-year concession, although with an option to extend for up to 20% of the original term.
The works in the concession are divided into three stages:
Stage 0 (up to one year after the contract is signed): Entails the maintenance of the entire waterway section. This phase also includes the drafting of the technical, legal and environmental documentation for the following stage.
Stage 1: Involves three main infrastructure works
- Widening of Brown canal
- Dredging section of the Parana Bravo (27km) and Parana Guazú (73km) river canals to a 34 feet depth.
- Dredging of a separate 41km section of the Paraná Guazú canal
Stage 2: Entails dredging two more sections:
- Timbúes-Paraná de las Palmas (420km)
- Emilio Mitre canal-Atlantic ocean (49.8km)
Stage 2 also includes drafting studies for future works.
