Argentina Close to Relaunching Waterway Dredging Concession Tender

Posted on November 14, 2025

Argentina’s federal government is preparing to launch a new tender for the dredging, operation and maintenance of a 1,477km section of the Paraná-Paraguay waterway, after a previous auction was suspended in February amid allegations of irregularities.

Authorities held several multisectoral meetings following the failed tender, and the results will serve as the basis for the new bidding process, sources with knowledge of the matter told local daily La Nación.

The new concession would be for 30 years, with average annual revenues projected at US$410 million, as the waterway mobilizes 80% of Argentina’s agricultural exports, among other products.

Córdoba

Three bidders are competing for a 37.6 billion (bn) peso (US$26.9mn) contract to pave and widen a 17.5km section provincial route No. 28 in Córdoba, between the access to the town of Tala Cañada and a bridge over the Guasta river.

The works include widening six existing bridges and building a new structure over the Chávez river, according to bidding documents.

The bidders are Afema, Pablo Federico Hnos, and a consortium comprising Vadieg and Vial Rg.

Neuquén

The government of Neuquén province is seeking authorization from the local legislature to seek up to US$300mn in financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and the World Bank’s International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) to carry out tourist infrastructure and urban development projects.

The US$150mn IADB loan would fund roadworks, basic services and public spaces, while the US$150mn IBRD loan would focus on road and tourist connectivity and strengthening institutions related to the tourism sector.

Provincial economy minister Guillermo Koenig told lawmakers that Neuquén needs to diversify its economy to avoid dependency on hydrocarbons, according to a press release from the local legislature.
