For its success as one of the largest engineering, procurement and construction management firms for semiconductors in New York, its successful track record helping clients navigate state regulatory process and its support of the local community, Arcadis North America has been selected as the 2025 ENR New York Design Firm of the Year.
Selected by ENR’s editors, the Design Firm of the Year demonstrates success in the region from a growth and revenue standpoint as well as innovation, creativity and a commitment to giving back to its community. The firm will be featured in the May print issue of ENR East, which will also include the ENR East Top Design Firm rankings.
The ENR East ranking of engineers and architects includes firms doing business in Connecticut, Delaware, Washington, D.C., Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia. Rankings are based on total regional revenue of design services of participating companies, and also includes breakouts by state revenue and various design specialties and disciplines, as applicable.
The new ranking follows the 2025 consolidation of ENR regional editions into five new regions to reflect an ongoing commitment to deliver the most relevant and timely coverage to readers, in alignment with the evolving landscape of the construction industry. Employing more than 1,100 people across the state, Arcadis has offices in Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo, Albany, White Plains, Melville and New York City.
In addition to working on large transportation and water utility programs in New York, Arcadis’ EPCM teams for semiconductors helps clients such as NY CREATES, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, GlobalFoundries and IBM increase private investment in U.S. technology innovation.
The firm’s experience navigating the state’s regulatory system helps time-constrained projects move forward in New York, where clients have access to the firm’s global business verticals and full scope of its capabilities.
The firm’s partnerships with local universities include the Pratt Institute and their new Center for Climate Adaptation, and Syracuse University and their annual senior-level capstone design project course for civil and environmental engineering students.
Another way Arcadis supports the community is through its Local Sparks program. Each year, the program supports a number of standout projects that are funded by the global organization, with projects chosen based on their ability to make a powerful positive impact. Outside of the funding, this program encourages and places a spotlight on Arcadian-led community projects around the world.
In Syracuse, the firm partnered with the city, SUNY ESF and the Syracuse City School District to transform a City Park field house providing a significant quality of life impact on a highly diverse, economically disadvantaged community.
In Buffalo, the firm collaborated with the University at Buffalo STEM Diversification via the Arcadis Pathways to Engineering Program. Last year the program supported Burgard High School (an inner-city school in Buffalo) to help promote STEM careers. The program included an “egg drop” lesson where the students were provided various materials and were asked to construct a system using only those materials to protect their egg when dropped.
The firm conducts a Toys for Tots holiday fundraiser in New York City and has participated in Cycle for Survival for 14 years to support rare cancer fundraising for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. They are also involved with Canstruction to support City Harvest.
Last year, Arcadis ranked No. 3 on the ENR New York Design Firm ranking with $326.45 million in regional revenue. The previous year it ranked No. 6 with $217.29 million in regional revenue.
