Expansion program will invest in the UK Ministry of Justice’s estate with a focus on rehabilitation

Arcadis, a global leader in sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions, has been appointed as a program delivery partner by the UK Ministry of Justice to expand its prison estate. The program will be delivered in partnership with AtkinsRealis and Mott MacDonald.

Alan Brookes, CEO of Arcadis, said, “Drawing on our experience delivering correctional facilities and social infrastructure globally, we understand the critical role that thoughtful, purpose-built facilities play in creating spaces that support rehabilitation and positive outcomes. This expansion program is an important step forward in shaping environments that truly help individuals rebuild their lives and reduce reoffending.

Over an initial four years, the partners will support a range of services, including project and program management, design and engineering, information management, and health and safety advisory services. The program will facilitate the upgrade and expansion of existing facilities and include the design and construction of new facilities throughout the UK.

The Ministry of Justice is prioritizing rehabilitation through its expansion program to reduce the cycle of reoffending once individuals reintegrate into society.

Arcadis has previously completed similar work in North America and the UK. The latest contract award by the Ministry of Justice follows the successful delivery of projects by Arcadis over the last 15 years, including complex capital maintenance projects on the existing estate as well as working with the UK Ministry of Justice in areas as diverse as sustainability, health and safety, organizational change, digital advisory, and facilities management.
